HOME FOR GUD: Developing a Digital Experience Rooted in Authentic Storytelling

Some engagements are defined by the product. This one was defined by the story behind it.

Home For Gud brings traditional Sukhdi made from three ingredients: jaggery, ghee, and whole wheat flour to the Indian diaspora across the United States. Founded by Aarohi from a place of personal experience, the brand carries something most e-commerce businesses do not: a genuine emotional anchor. Living far from home, reconnecting with food that carried the memory of generations, she built something meaningful. Our role was to ensure the digital experience reflected that meaning without diminishing it.

OUR APPROACH

Precision in Design Implementation

The design specifications came in detail, and we executed them with equal precision translating every spacing value, typographic decision, and interactive state from Figma to browser without compromise.

Font rendering behaviour, spacing variance across breakpoints, and the reconstruction of visual effects in code were each addressed systematically, section by section. The result: a live site that holds true to its design intent. For a brand built on care and craftsmanship, visual inconsistency carries a cost. We ensured there was none.

Animation Integration within Shopify

Shopify's architecture does not natively accommodate external animation libraries. Integrating Lottie within custom Liquid sections loading efficiently, triggering contextually, and without impact to page performance required deliberate technical problem-solving. Animations were loaded asynchronously and initialised at the point of viewport entry. The result is an experience that feels considered rather than added on.

Interaction Design with GSAP

Subtle interactions are distributed across the site elements easing into view on scroll, sections transitioning with intentional movement, hover states that go beyond the limitations of standard CSS transitions. The brand does not call for spectacle, and we did not build for it. GSAP gave us the precision to control easing, timing, and feel with the specificity the brand required.

Narrative Architecture: Horizontal Scroll on the Our Story Page

The Our Story page delivers the founder's journey through a horizontal scroll experience. As a user progresses vertically through the page, the narrative unfolds laterally changing the pace of reading and creating the conditions for a quote to land with the weight it deserves.

It is a small technical implementation with a meaningful experiential outcome.

Responsive Build Across Devices and Accessibility Settings

The site was developed mobile-first and validated across phones, tablets, and desktops. Beyond standard responsive testing, layouts and animations were tested across browser zoom levels 125%, 150% ensuring the experience holds for users with accessibility preferences that scale typography or reflow content. Many builds do not account for zoom behaviour. This one does.

FROM THE TEAM

"This was a genuinely engaging project to work on. The designs were well-structured from the outset, and the collaborative approach with the design team made iteration efficient. Technically, integrating Lottie into Shopify presented a real challenge, and working with GSAP to achieve the right quality of interaction was a rewarding process."

Shambhavi Sinha, Developer

IN SUMMARY

Every technical decision on this project served a single strategic objective: to ensure that a user arriving from halfway across the world encounters something that feels, immediately, like home. Not a well-executed website. The feeling itself.
